CHARACTERISTICS OF SHIPS USED

For simulations, the MSRC already has several ship models (bulk carriers, oil tankers, container ships, LNG carriers, tugs, passenger ships, etc.). Each ship model is unique, with manoeuvring characteristics very faithful to those of the ship on which the model was based.

OWNSHIP MODELS

The hydrodynamic and wind behaviour of the ship models are generated using internationally accepted mathematical modelling techniques. As such, the vessel's interaction with the external environment and tug forces, as well as effects such as squat and channel, are represented by the most advanced numerical techniques. The figure illustrates the simulated behaviour of the virtual vessel.

MSRC can build new ship models if the project requires a very particular type of vessel. In such cases, about two months are required to complete modelling and validation.
