New pier for cruise ships in Saguenay (Saguenay River Fjord)

  Location : Saguenay, Canada
  Year : 2007
  Client : Promotion Saguenay
  Vessel Type : Cruise Vessels

As part of its port expansion project, Promotion Saguenay used the services of the Maritime Simulation and Resource Centre (MSRC).

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the concept of a new infrastructure for a cruise terminal, to determine operating limits and eventually to serve as a training tool for ship captains, pilots and terminal operators.

The MSRC therefore developed a geographic database for the site, modelled the planned infrastructure and carried out simulations in order to evaluate and determine operating limits so as to ensure safe use of the infrastructures, factoring in any activities taking place nearby.

Conventional and azimuthing podded propulsion ship models were used for this study.
