Manoeuvring Feasibility Study for a New Port Infrastructure

As part of a port expansion project, the Quebec Port Authority (QPA) used the services of the Maritime Simulation and Resource Centre (MSRC).

For this project, the MSRC modelled the planned infrastructure and integrated it in the existing database for the Port of Quebec. It also converted some current fields predicted by digital modelling, showing the evolution of currents throughout the tidal cycle for spring tide and neap tide conditions. For each geo referenced point, 12 different vector values were assigned to reflect the dynamic current evolution during tidal cycles.

Simulations designed to determine the operational feasibility of this project and the potential impacts on existing infrastructures were conducted with the collaboration of pilots from the Corporation of Lower St. Lawrence Pilots.
