Training details
Goal/standards:  Familiarize Pilots with the operating limits of Post-Panamax ships in a restricted channel, taking into account the following conditions:
  • wind limits;
  • effect of the current;
  • interaction between two Post-Panamax ships when meeting in a restricted channel;
  • interaction between a Post-Panamax ship and another type of ship when meeting in a restricted channel;
  • interaction between two Post-Panamax ships when one is overtaking the other in a restricted channel;
  • interaction between a Post-Panamax ship and another type of ship when one is overtaking the other in a restricted channel.
Length:  2 days
Simulation:  Basically a hands-on approach. Brief theoretical explanations and exercises on the Navigation Simulator.
Prerequisites:  Holding a pilot’s license or being in the process of acquiring such a license.
Preferred teaching   
strategies: 
Theoretical and practical, hands-on experience using the navigation simulator. Discussions among the participants encouraged during manoeuvres.
Notes:  Unless otherwise stated, all training begins at 8:30 a.m.
