  Emergency Shiphandling Procedures for Pilots  
 

Training details
Goal/standards:  Standard emergency maneuvers, emergency stops, turns and use of anchors. Hands-on experience in various emergency situations, such as engine problems, steering problems, collisions, stranding, etc.
Length:  2½ to 3 days
Simulation:  Mainly practical. Brief theoretical explanations, followed by exercises on the multidisciplinary navigation simulator.
Prerequisites:  Holding a pilot’s license or being in the process of acquiring such a license.
Preferred teaching   
strategies: 
Theoretical and practical, hands-on experience using the navigation simulator. Discussions among the participants encouraged during manoeuvres.
Notes:  Unless otherwise stated, all training begins at 8:30 a.m.
